Welcome to our Game Development with Ren’Py course. This course will take you from Beginner to Competent programmer in four easy sessions. While this course DOES NOT require a laptop, one is suggested so that if you encounter errors with project work, you can bring it in for us to take a look at.
Three items you will need is Visual Studio Code, The Ren’py plugin and Ren’py.
Visual Studio Code is free through either the Microsoft store or at https://code.visualstudio.com/ .
Once you have that downloaded, open it, select Extensions on the left side, and search for Ren’py Language. You want the 8.3+ version. If you are having any trouble, please reach out to us at [email protected].
Third, you will need the Ren’py compiler itself. You can find it here: https://www.renpy.org/
What can you make with Renpy? Slay the Princess is written in Renpy. So is Doki Doki Literature Club and hundreds of other games. I’m developing my own game in Ren’Py as well, The Priest and The Deep, so this course comes with hundreds of hours of learned lessons when dealing with this language.
This class will run for four weeks, and will cover the following things:
Language Basics.
Functions, Calls, and Reducing Spaghetti Code
Multimedia
Long term development planning & Scriptwriting
A certificate will be given out at completion of this course. Completion will require a small, playable test game to demonstrate proficiency with the language.
