Gallery Opening: The Words He Cannot Say
Leo Bird draws and writes stories to support a cause and communicate the way he feels about conflicts he faces, not out of a fan of any artist. He hopes his stories will inform audiences how to resolve the statistics that 85% of people with autism are unemployed, more than half of high schoolers are unprepared for college, and a third of Americans are lonely, although the latter statistic should be higher as there are people who do not realize they could be living more enriching social lives than they do now.
The inspiration for his drawings comes from examining a story he wrote for parts that would benefit from a drawing, like depicting a conflict or a quantity. Leo thinks of it as translating text into images.
