Why This Matters in 2026 We believe in the power of community solidarity. While we’ve made strides, the 2026 landscape shows there is still critical work to be done:
- Women currently hold approximately 35% of all tech roles in the United States. However, in core technical occupations (engineering and computing), that figure drops to roughly 25%.
- Global Cybersecurity: Representation has improved significantly, with women now making up 24% of the global cybersecurity workforce. Projections suggest this will only reach 35% by 2031.
- Specialized Gaps: The "gender gap" varies by niche; women hold 40–46% of data science roles (the highest representation in tech) but only 22% of AI roles and 14% of cloud computing positions.
2026 Leadership & The Glass CeilingThe "leaky pipeline" remains a critical issue as women move into senior management:
- C-Suite Representation: In large U.S. companies, women hold 29% of C-suite positions, a figure that has remained stagnant since 2024.
- Fortune 500 CEOs: As of early 2026, 52 women lead Fortune 500 companies (roughly 10.4%).
- Women of Color: Diversity at the top remains severely limited; women of color make up only 7% of C-suite roles ...At the current rate of progress, parity for women of color in these roles is not expected for another 48 years!
- Boardroom Presence: Women now occupy 32% of S&P 500 board seats
Economic Impact of Inclusion:The business case for closing these gaps has strengthened in 2026:
- Performance: Companies with at least 30% women in leadership are 12 times more likely to rank in the top 20% for financial performance.
- Innovation: Firms with more women in STEM leadership report a 35% increase in revenue generated from innovation
