This hybrid meeting is available live in our meeting room at Mexborough Church Hall or via Zoom.Galactic magnetic fields areweak, pervasive magnetic fields found within galaxies like the Milky Way, extending far beyond their visible boundaries. These fields are generally observed to have energies comparable to or exceeding the thermal and turbulent energies of the gas within the galaxy. They play a significant role in various galactic processes, including star formation and the evolution of galactic outflows.
Our speaker Pheobe Ryder is a PhD student at the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics at the University of Manchester, where her research focuses on developing observational techniques for imaging asteroids and space debris.
She recently finished a masters by research at JBCA researching the small-scale structure of the Galactic Magnetic Field, focusing on finding the Faraday rotation of extragalactic sources through the diffuse emission of the Galactic plane.
