Gabriola Full-Moon Lunatics Walk, 11th annual (2026)

Come join this annual night-time epic walk around Gabriola Island by the light of the full moon. It's beautiful, it's fun, it's memorable, and it's nutty.
All lunatics and their adventurous pals are invited to join in.
It starts at 9:30pm at the Gertie Bus Stop on Lochinvar Lane in the village core. We walk counter-clockwise from the village, along South Road, past Silva Bay, and back along North Road through the tunnel back to the village core.
Everyone goes at their own pace and chooses when to stop. Hardcore loonies sometimes do the whole 26-km loop in 5 or 6 hours, but you don't have to go all the way or go fast! It's definitely not a competition.
Please note that while we used to have a fantastic volunteer who drove around the island a couple of times after midnight to pick up weary lunatics and shuttle them home, we can no longer offer that service, so if you think you might become too weary to complete the walk, please make your own arrangements for a pick-up. Some people park a vehicle somewhere along the route if they know they wanna do just a part.
So bring a friend, a flashlight, something reflective, some water, maybe a snack, and a sense of adventure. Four legged friends are welcome (on leash); a horse showed up one year, goats another--who knows what might this year!
Hope to see you there to experience this beautiful island in a whole different way!
Any questions or comments, post them here or email the organizer, Steven Earle, at steven.earle(at)viu.ca
