Each year, over 1,000 cities throw citywide music celebrations around the summer solstice. It started 40+ years ago in France, when the Ministry of Culture imagined a day where free, live music would be everywhere: street corners and parks, rooftops, storefronts, and mountaintops. Unlike a typical music festival, anyone and everyone would be invited to join and play music and host performances. It’s called Fête de la Musique, “Make Music Day.”
This year, Fête de la Musique - Make Music Day coincides with Capital Pride in DC.
We invite all to celebrate that same spirit of inclusivity and expression through the universal language of music. As part of Pride Month, the French Embassy will highlight artists whose work and artistic path show a sustained commitment.
The 3rd annual Fete de la Musique- World Music Day Georgetown is anticipated to bring 45,000 people between 4:00 - 8:00 pm. Be part of this event on Georgetown's lively streets and public spaces by becoming a sponsor. For more information on becoming a sponsor, click here.
Fête de la Musique Georgetown is supported in part by the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities, which receives funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
