A day-long workshop involving games for ages 7-10 years
About this Event

Ever wondered how your favourite video games are actually made? Step inside the FUZE Game Studio at the Science Oxford Centre this summer and go from gamer to game creator!

The Science Oxford Centre will be hosting the team from FUZE Technologies Ltd at the Science Oxford Centre for an exciting holiday club where children aged 7-10 years can learn the fundamentals of coding guided by expert tutors and fun, engaging projects, all in a welcoming, friendly and relaxed environment.

Forget boring spreadsheets and walls of text. FUZE use the Nintendo Switch and real physical keyboards to teach you how to write actual code by building, tweaking, and playing video games. If you can type, you can build a game!

What You’ll Do (The Fun Stuff)

  • Code Your Own Visuals: Learn how to blast lasers, change colours, spawn hundreds of retro sprites, and design your own game worlds.
  • Control the Physics: Want your character to jump higher? Want to change gravity so objects float away? You control the rules of the universe with just a few keystrokes.
  • Hack and Mod: We'll show you how to dig into existing game code, tweak the variables, and completely change how the game plays. Make yourself invincible, change the speed, or create total chaos!

The "Secret" Learning (What Parents Love)

While it feels like pure play, your young developers are actually mastering the exact same logic used by professional software engineers worldwide:

  • The Magic of Variables: Turning a mathematical variable into a player's "High Score" or "Remaining Lives."
  • Loops & Logic: Using conditional code (If/Then statements) to make a game recognize when a player hits an obstacle or scores a goal.
  • Problem Solving & Debugging: Learning to think like a scientist. When a line of code doesn't work, you'll hunt down the bug, fix it, and celebrate the win.

No experience needed! Whether you’ve never typed a line of code in your life or you’re already a coding wizard, our tutors will have you making things move, jump, and explode on screen in no time.

FUZE Staff are experienced with ASD Children and create a warm environment in which all children can feel safe and encouraged.

Please note:

• Please bring a (named) packed lunch and water bottle, and named Medic*tion if required.
