Synopsis

Digital money is evolving rapidly, with stablecoins, Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) and tokenised deposits (TDs) emerging as potential components of future financial infrastructure.

This session will explore how these developments may reshape payments, settlement and financial services, while considering whether they represent meaningful innovation or risk increasing fragmentation across the financial system.

Drawing on practical developments and regulatory trends, the discussion will examine the opportunities, challenges and implications for firms, policymakers and consumers.

About the speaker

Ayo Ojerinola is the Founder and CEO of NOBO Finance, a fintech company building trusted payment and digital trade finance infrastructure for SMEs. He has over 20 years’ experience leading complex transformation programmes across IBM, Mastercard, Lloyds and Deutsche Bank, with a focus on financial services innovation, regulated infrastructure and scalable payment systems.

At NOBO, Ayo is focused on making SME trade more bankable, verifiable and visible through streamlined, compliant trade finance workflows, digital IDs, conditional payments and multi-rail settlement. NOBO Finance was selected for the Bank of England’s Digital Pound Lab Phases 1&2, where, in collaboration with Ethereum layer2 chains, it explored conditional business-to-business payments, digital currency interoperability and how cross-border trade finance could be made more accessible for SMEs.

Ayo has also been an active member of industry trade associations such as Innovate Finance and the Payments Association, regularly participating in round tables and responses to consultation from UK regulators and government agencies.
