About this Event
This February, in celebration of Black History Month, you’re invited to a powerful evening honoring the legacy, influence, and future of Black radio.
Join us Friday, February 28th, from 5 to 9 PM, at the WGPR Historical Society’s W. V. Banks Museum, for an engaging panel discussion exploring the significance of Black radio — its impact on culture, business, and progress in Detroit and across America.
This special event will feature five dynamic voices with deep roots in radio and storytelling:
Anthony Brogdon — historian, author, and podcast host.
Gerald McBride — WMXD-Mix 92 radio personality, film producer, and former WGPR-FM broadcaster.
Tony Rankin – WGPR-FM 107.5 Programmer and afternoon-drivetime on-air personality.
Frankie Darcell – former Detroit radio personality, actor, director, and nationally distributed radio personality.
Billy T. Thompson - current WMXD radio personality, former WGPR staff member, and board member of the WGPR-TV Historical Society.
Enjoy an evening filled with thought-provoking conversation, music, and light refreshments, all in one of Detroit’s most historic spaces, The WGPR-TV62, William V. Banks Broadcast Museum.
Celebrate our history, honor our voices, and connect with our community.
