Why choose my place?
We is Shabani and Ommy, your host, and I’m excited to invite you into our family home and community. Staying with us is more than just accommodation—it’s a chance to live closely with local people, share daily life, and experience Tanzania from the inside.
Location & Community
Our house is in Mbagala – Kilungule and Majimatitu, a lively and colorful neighborhood about 20 yt minutes from the city center. Getting around is simple—whether by public buses, boda-boda (motorcycle taxis), or ride-hailing apps like Bolt and Uber. The area is full of kind-hearted neighbors and a genuine community spirit that will make you feel at home right away.
Daycare Project
Only a short walk from the house, you’ll find our daycare centers one is Vision (VBD) Day Care and Furaha Day Care, where children are eager to learn, play, and connect. Volunteering with us means becoming part of their growth and joy—you’ll quickly see how much your presence matters.
Mama Support Community Organisation
Alongside the daycares, I also work with Mama Support Community Organisation, a community initiative supporting children living vulnerably, young people, and women. The organisation runs various activities—from education and mentorship to awareness programs—that empower the community and create lasting opportunities by giving entrepreneur ship skills. As a volunteer, you’ll have the chance to be part of these efforts, contributing directly to meaningful change.
Accommodation & Meals
Our home offers both shared and private rooms (private rooms are limited, so early requests are appreciated). Life here is simple and cozy—you’ll be living as part of the family. We serve three meals daily, mainly delicious Tanzanian staples like rice with fish, beans, vegetables, potatoes, and pasta as well as fruits. From time to time, we add a twist, such as homemade pizza or other surprises on weekends.
Free Time & Exploration
On your days off, you’ll have the chance to explore Dar es Salaam and beyond—visit local markets, enjoy nearby beaches, discover cultural sites, or just relax and enjoy the rhythms of daily life in Mbagala.

About me and staff
I’m Shabani Haruna Jumbe, the founder & manager's of Vision (VBD) Day Care project. Alongside four dedicated caregivers and two support staff, we work like a close-knit family. Volunteers are treated with kindness, respect, and appreciation from day one. We’re here to support you, share with you, and grow together through cultural exchange and teamwork. You’ll feel right at home, surrounded by people who genuinely care about your experience.
