Have you been curious about Contact Improvisation but lacking the tools to really connect in a way that feels safe (both physically and emotionally)? Touch can bring up a lot of triggers for us especially when we don’t feel empowered to make boundaries for ourselves and learn how to ‘speak’ non-verbally in movement.
We will explore, in words and in movement, the fundamentals of CI and learn tools to better understand yourself and your reactions to particular scenarios, as well as how to harmoniously and effectively negotiate a dance with others while keeping yourself and others safe in the process.
Once we learn how to keep ourselves safe, we will explore movement vocabulary and exercises to help get you out of your head and into the dance! Indeed the richness of this practice is when we can reach a true flow state in our movement in connection with others. Let's dance!
✨️ Movement vocabulary (listening/hearing invitations or making them)
✨️ Ways of saying yes, no or redirecting through movement
✨️ How to initiate dances
✨️ How to stay curious and engaged
✨️ How to stay in your physical integrity and better avoid injury
✨️ How to listen for opportunities (lifts or other)
✨️ How to notice when you may be blocking or avoiding opportunities

We will take a short break for lunch, so bring nourishment, snacks and water.
Wear comfortable clothing that lets you stretch, move. No scratchy metal bits on clothing (zippers, metal bits) or dangling jewlery (earings, bracelets, necklaces).
Bring a journal for your discoveries and reflections.
