Hello! As you all know, Lacey was born with an imperforate anus with a fistula. When she was 5 months old, she had surgery for the first time. We struggled for some years with constant accidents, stomach issues, and even urethra problems. We ended up going to Ohio for a program to get us on enemas. From there, we ended up at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, which led us to a surgery for an appendicostomy. It worked for a few years, but the last two to three years, we ended up having major issues (pooping constantly, stool balls the size of baseballs or bigger). We did pelvic floor therapy to try to regain muscle and work on strengthening those areas. During that time, her colon has become enlarged to the point where she has a stool ball clean-out under general anesthesia at least 4-6 times a year. Now, her doctor has recommended an ileostomy bag for one year through her small colon to allow her big colon to shrink and heal. (His hope is that it will shrink; if not, she has to have another surgery in one year.) Now to the fun part, I’m her primary caregiver. I myself will be out of work for a good 3-4 weeks, which means no money is coming in on my end, and we all know the bills don’t stop just because of a major surgery.
