About this Event
Have you ever heard the phrase that you know you're getting older when your back goes out more than you do, or your knees go from left and right to good and bad.
Well unfortunately, the same can happen as our physical function and fitness declines as we get older. This can mean things like having less strength, balance issues, less mobility or not being able to do some everyday tasks like gardening, shopping and housework.
If functional fitness continues to decline (for example, your balance gets worse and you start to fall), this can increase your chances of becoming more frail and more dependent on others.
BUT!
It's not all bad news. To help improve Functional Ageing fitness (part of Ageing Well), making lifestyle changes such as exercising and being more physically active can help older people to stay mobile, independent and enjoy life.
This event is aimed as an introduction for people working with older people who would like to know more about the key concepts involved around Functional Ageing, physical activity, exercise & Ageing Well.
Topics covered in the session include:
- What is ageing, types of ageing and the concept of Ageing Well
- Functional Ageing, what is it and how help can impact Ageing Well
- Sarcopenia (muscle loss) and frailty
- Behaviour change, identifying barriers and goal setting
- Physical Activity & Exercise concepts that can improve Functional Ageing & Ageing Well
- Key physical function areas for doing daily activities, staying mobile & maintaining independence
This event may of particular interest to Social Prescribers, Care Coordinators, Health & Wellbeing Coaches, HCAs, nurses and other Health & Care sector workers in Gloucestershire who work primarily with older people.
