About this Event
Join us for an unforgettable evening where early baseball history meets live-scored silent film — just as movies were originally meant to be experienced.
The centerpiece of the show is the teams award-winning original film Day of the Catch, a contemporary silent short inspired by the quirky, little-known origins of Florida’s Grapefruit League. Set in the early 20th century, the film captures the humor, heart, and improvisational spirit of America’s pastime — complete with biplanes, spring training legends, and the famous tossed grapefruit that helped name a baseball institution. Written, directed, and scored by Jared Engel, the film was produced entirely in-house by the Musicians' Baseball Club of Brooklyn and was even recently screened on the Jumbotron before a Mets spring training game.
Between reels, you’ll hear brief stories, original songs, and bits of baseball lore that bring the history to life — no homework required.
It’s baseball nostalgia, live music, and old-school cinema magic rolled into one joyful, immersive night!
