[email protected]Thirty Birdy & Thriving (TBT) is an ABAS program designed to bring 20-40(ish) year-olds together to find their peeps and share their love of birds! This month's TBT program is a field trip to a couple spots on the Northeast side of Indianapolis to look for magical owls and weird waterfowl. This time we’re meeting on a Saturday early evening, scheduled for Saturday, January 24 from 4:00-6:00 pm.
We’ll meet at the parking lot for Geist Coffee Company and will caravan from there to Geist Waterfront Park to look for mixed-species waterfowl flocks. This part will require a scope, which several of us have and can share.
Next we will carpool to Mt Comfort Airport in McCordsville to wait out the Short-eared Owls but also scope out other birds. Short-eared Owls are a State Endangered species, but all owls require special birder etiquette.
At both stops we will do our best to allow for car-birding as well as birding outside. However, as there are limited spots that will provide a view from inside the cars, please let me know if you have a condition that cannot tolerate cold, wind, or long periods of standing, so that we can allow those in most need a car spot to enjoy the experience.
Also remember to dress for the cold weather, since we will end after dark, arriving back at Geist Coffee at 6pm.
