Full 'Strawberry' Moon

June’s full Moon has traditionally been called the Strawberry Moon and is typically the last full Moon of Spring or the first of Summer.
While strawberries certainly are a reddish-pink colour and are roundish in shape, the origin of the name “Strawberry Moon” has nothing to do with the Moon’s hue or appearance but is more likely to be associated with it being peak season for Strawberries.
A Moon usually appears reddish when it’s close to the horizon because the light rays must pass through the densest layers of the atmosphere.
Moonrise time: 22.11
Sunset time: 21.17
Once again we shall be pointing the telescope and binoculars
skyward to explore a different world.
We will take a look at the lunar craters, constellations and satellites passing overhead along with planets and anything else that may catch the eye!
As always, we are hoping for a clear sky and gentle winds!
Please meet us at the benches above Long Beach car park, Grouville, from 21.30 onwards.
If you have binoculars and a folding chair please bring them along.
Warm clothing, a blanket and a hot drink could be useful too!
For the swimmers ...high tide is at 19.45 (9.9 metres)
For the hungry ... Fish and Chips are available in the village from 17.00. A very nice treat!
Why not head out East and enjoy this natural spectacle with friends, family and/or a bowl of Jersey Strawberries ...😋
