Why It’s Called the Buck Moon

The name “Buck Moon” comes from the time of year when male deer (bucks) begin growing new antlers, which are in full growth by July. Antlers grow rapidly during this period, fueled by increasing daylight and hormonal changes. Unlike horns, antlers are made of bone and are shed annually.
