Topics & Presenters
Hands On - An Introduction to Composite Strengthening Systems
This seminar provides an in-depth overview of injection grouting applications for addressing common structural challenges. Topics include mitigation of water intrusion in below-grade parking structures, stabilization and sealing of seawalls, and improvement of in-situ soil bearing capacity. Attendees will gain insight into design considerations, material selection, and construction methodologies, supported by real-world case studies from transportation, municipal, and commercial projects.
Presenter: Aaron Rogers of URETEK USA, Inc
Aaron is a licensed Professional Engineer with 15 years of experience in both geotechnical engineering and construction management. He currently serves as a Senior Project Manager at URETEK USA, specializing in ground improvement, injection grouting, and subsurface problem-solving across complex infrastructure projects.
1 PDH
Shrinkage in Concrete & Concrete Durability
Shrinkage in Concrete:
Shrinkage is a primary cause of cracking in concrete. This presentation will explain the mechanisms behind shrinkage-induced cracking and present practical methods to mitigate or control it. Real-world applications where these strategies have been successfully employed will also be discussed.
Concrete Durability:
This session will address how to design concrete to withstand various exposure conditions. It will review key durability requirements from ACI codes and standards and examine how available materials can enhance concrete performance and extend service life.
Presenter: Dr. Rached, P.E. of Master Builders
John-Michael Wong is an Associate at KPFF Consulting Engineers in San Francisco with 16 years of industry experience. He is a SEAONC member, and Project Manager for the NCSEA Foundation's Innovation in Structural Engineering Grant Team on Artificial Intelligence.
John-Michael completed his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D in Structural Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley and has conducted research on a variety of topics related to design, analysis, lean construction, and computer applications. He is a leader in introducing AI technologies for applications to design and professional practice within KPFF.
