Considering opening a children's home? Cut through the myths and understand what it really takes to get registered.
About this Event

Are you considering opening a children's home?

There is no shortage of advice out there. Consultants promise to get you registered. Online courses offer quick answers. Social media is full of people who will tell you it is straightforward if you just follow their formula.

This seminar is different.

This is a full day of honest, practical guidance designed to give you everything you need to make an informed decision whether that means moving forward with confidence or walking away before you waste time and money on something that was never going to work.

There is no upsell. No packages to buy at the end. No pressure to sign up for consultancy support. Just straight talking information from someone with over 35 years in the sector who has seen what works, what does not and where people come unstuck.

You will leave knowing more than most people who have already started the process and if you have already started it is even more important you attend to enhance your knowledge.

What you will learn

The truth about demand and location

  • Where the need actually is - and where it is not
  • Ofsted's current position on saturation and clustering
  • How to conduct a location risk assessment
  • Why location is now a significant factor in registration decisions

Defining your model

  • What type of home will you run?
  • Matching your model to local need
  • Why these decisions must come before your property search

Finding and securing a property

  • What to look for and what to avoid
  • Planning permission: the step that catches everyone out
  • Building requirements and realistic adaptation costs

The regulatory framework

  • The Children's Homes Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards
  • The three key roles: Provider, Responsible Individual, Registered Manager
  • What Ofsted assesses and why applications are refused

The people

  • Regulation 28 and what makes a fit Registered Manager
  • Preparing for the Fit Person Interview
  • Building your staff team: the recruitment realities

The registration process

  • What must be in place before you apply
  • The Statement of Purpose: who writes it and what it must contain
  • Common errors, delays, and refusals

Financial planning

  • True start-up costs
  • The reality of fee income, voids, and cash flow
  • Why you need more contingency than you think

Why this seminar is different

No hidden agenda. This is not a sales funnel for consultancy services. You will not be pitched to at the end of the day.

Nothing held back. You will receive the same information consultants charge thousands to share because you deserve to make an informed decision before you spend a penny on professional support.

Honest guidance. If your plans are not viable, you will hear it. If your location will not work, you will understand why. If you are not ready, you will know what you need to do first.

Practical and specific. This is not generic business advice dressed up as sector knowledge. It is real detail about how registration actually works, what Ofsted is really looking for, and where people genuinely come unstuck.

This seminar is for you if:

  • You are considering opening your first children's home
  • You are an investor exploring the children's residential care sector
  • You are in the process of opening a children's home
  • You are an experienced professional thinking about becoming a Responsible Individual or Registered Manager for a new home
  • You have had advice elsewhere yet still do not feel you have the full picture
  • You want honest, practical guidance with no sales pressure

This seminar is not for you if:

  • You are looking for shortcuts or guarantees
  • You believe the myths about easy profits and guaranteed occupancy
  • You are not prepared to hear that your plans may need to change
  • You want someone to tell you what you want to hear

About your facilitator

Angela Griffiths is a qualified social worker with over 35 years of experience in children's residential care. She has worked at every level from practitioner to Responsible Individual and now runs Childrens Homes Improvement Ltd, providing supervision, professional development and regulatory support to children's home managers across the United Kingdom.

Angela has supported numerous providers through the registration process and has seen first-hand what works, what does not, and where people come unstuck.

This seminar is not about selling you consultancy services, quite the reverse. It is about giving you the knowledge to make your own informed decisions whether that means going it alone, seeking support elsewhere or deciding this is not the right path for you.

What is included

  • Full-day seminar with expert facilitation
  • Comprehensive handouts and resources including checklists and templates
  • Hot lunch and refreshments
  • Honest answers to your questions throughout the day

For those of you who want to stay the night before or the night after the seminar we have negotiated special rates with the Park Regis - please message us after you have booked. In addition for those of you travelling by car we have special parking discounts - please contact for detials.
