Quite fortuitously, The Golden Age of Book Illustration and The Golden Age of Fairy Tales reached their heights between 1890 and 1920 — the exact timeframe of the Frick’s exhibition, "The Scandinavian Home: Landscapes and Lore." To take advantage of this creative overlap, The Frick Pittsburgh presents a lecture that celebrates Denmark’s world-renowned master of enchantment, Hans Christian Andersen, alongside the noted artists who transformed his powerful words into equally powerful illustrations.
Once again, The Frick Pittsburgh welcomes Dr. Kahren Jones Arbitman for this special one-hour lecture. Dr. Arbitman received both an MA and a Ph.D. in art history from the University of Pittsburgh with a specialization in seventeenth-century Dutch art. After serving as the first curator-in-charge of The Frick Art Museum in 1985, she went on to become the director of the Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State University and the Executive Director of the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens in Florida.
