From the Ground Up: The Founders Reimagining Local News - New York City
About this Event
You already know one story about local news: outlets shrinking and closing, and chains buying up what remains.
But here in New York City, across the region, and throughout the country a different story is being written. Founders are building small, independent newsrooms in the places they live, accountable to their neighbors. A form of community infrastructure, built on trust: tiny news.
Join us for a panel with Tiny News Collective executive director Amy Kovac-Ashley, Central Desi founder Ambreen Ali, The Platia founder Annemarie Dooling, The Lighthouse founder Michael Schulson and Haitian Times founder, URL Media Director of Partnerships, and TNC board member Garry Pierre-Pierre. They'll discuss new research on what it takes for tiny newsrooms to launch and last, and why these types of newsrooms are critical for the future of journalism and democracy.
