About this Event

What is utopia? How is it made and what can it do in the world? In her new book, Jenny C. Mann asks us to shift our understanding of utopia from its politics to its form. Beginning with Thomas More’s Utopia (1516), one of the most influential books of all time, Mann shows that utopia’s recursive patterns—its frames, folds, knots, meanders, and turns—enable the perpetual invention of limitless artificial worlds. Join an esteemed panel of scholars in discussion of utopia’s world-building potential and Mann’s forthcoming book The Forms of Utopia: Paradox, Labyrinth, and Recursion in the Renaissance.

The event will feature Jenny Mann (Professor of English, NYU), Wendy Anne Lee (Associate Professor of English, NYU), Debapriya Sarkar (Associate Professor of English, University of Connecticut), and Corey McEleney (Professor of English, Fordham University)
