Dr. Millies will explore the documented history of how partisan strategists leveraged Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision on abortion, to inspire Catholics to support the Republican Party.
He will also consider the voting implications of Cardinal Bernardin’s “consistent ethic of life.”
Steven P. Millies, PhD, is Professor of Public Theology and Director of the Bernardin Center at Chicago Theological Union. He is the author of Good Intentions: A History of Catholic Voters' Road from Roe to Trump and A Consistent Ethic of Life: Navigating Catholic Engagement with U.S. Politics.
