About this Event
From Revolution to Black Miami: Continuities of Resistance
As the nation commemorates America250, The Black Archives and South Florida PBS partner to present From Revolution to Black Miami: Continuities of Resistance. The evening begins with a screening of Declarations: Black Americans and the Revolutionary War, a documentary exploring the critical but often under-told role of Black Americans in the Revolutionary era—on the battlefield, in daily life, and in the long struggle over the meaning of “freedom.”
Following the film, a live panel discussion will connect themes from the Revolutionary period to the lived experiences of Black communities in Overtown, Liberty City, and across Miami, examining how early struggles for freedom and belonging are echoed in today’s fights over housing, voting rights, education, and cultural preservation.
