About this Event

Join CIMA for a special afternoon at the iconic Bettys & Taylors Imperial Tearoom at Bettys in the centre of Harrogate – a unique opportunity to gain insights from one of Yorkshire’s most respected, family-owned businesses while enjoying a buffet style afternoon tea.

Afternoon tea

Founded in 1919, Bettys & Taylors is a proudly independent, values-driven organisation best known for its much-loved tea and coffee brands, including Yorkshire Tea and Taylors of Harrogate. With a strong focus on long-term thinking, responsible business practices and people-centred leadership, the business offers a compelling example of how commercial success and sustainability can go hand in hand.

Guests will enjoy a buffet style afternoon tea in the historic Imperial Tearoom, providing an excellent setting for networking with fellow finance professionals.

CPD: Bettys & Taylors, Schofield Money

At this event, senior leaders from Bettys & Taylors will share perspectives across three key areas:

  • Purpose-led leadership in a family-owned business, including their co-CEO model and values-driven approach
  • Sustainability in practice, exploring how environmental and ethical considerations are embedded across operations
  • Finance careers in transition, with a personal perspective on evolving skillsets and the integration of sustainability within the profession

Their session will conclude with a panel discussion and audience Q&A, offering attendees the chance to engage directly with the speakers.

We will also be joined by Richard Parker & Ben Hiley - Financial Planners from Schofield Money - who will discuss a plain-English guide to investing with your values intact. They will explain how ESG screening differs from ethical investing, what responsible portfolios actually hold, and share an honest look at performance, risk, and the long-term compounding potential of values-based strategies.

This event is open to CIMA members, future members and guests, and offers valuable CPD through real-world insight into leadership, sustainability and the evolving role of finance.

Don't miss out on this iconic blend of CPD and tea!

Info: Responsible investing has moved from niche conversation to mainstream choice. With more labels, more funds, and more headlines than ever, investors face real options and real confusion about aligning their money with their values.

In this session, Financial Planners Ben Hiley and Richard Parker from Schofield in Harrogate take a plain-English look at how ESG screening works, what separates ESG from ethical investing, and what responsible portfolios actually own beneath the headline.

They'll compare performance and risk characteristics of responsible versus conventional strategies, including an honest discussion of where ethical approaches have recently lagged and why long-term compounding still makes the case for many clients. Attendees will leave understanding how values-based investing functions in practice, with a clearer framework for matching their values to their money and the right questions to ask any adviser.
