The June program, “From Maine to Hammonton: The Story of Dr. Joseph Henry North and His Family,” will feature Stan North and Jeffrey North for a presentation exploring the history and legacy of the North family, one of Hammonton’s earliest and most influential families.
The program will focus on Dr. Joseph Henry North, Sr., who arrived in Hammonton in 1858 as the town’s first physician. In addition to practicing medicine, Dr. North became an advocate for fruit farming and played an important role in Hammonton’s early development. His descendants continued the family’s legacy in medicine, education, and community life for generations.
The presentation will also explore the family’s connections to England and the long-standing relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom, including ties to Wroxton College in England and one of Hammonton High School’s earliest teachers.
Stan North is a practicing international attorney with a longtime interest in family history and the historic relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom. He was instrumental in forming a consortium of four United Kingdom universities together with Rutgers, Princeton, NJIT, and UMDNJ that secured a $10 million healthcare grant from the United Kingdom, work for which he received a Thomas Edison Innovation Award.
Originally from Lloyd Harbor on Long Island’s North Shore, North graduated from Cold Spring Harbor High School before earning a bachelor’s degree in urban studies from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School, a Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School, and a master’s degree in Corporate Law from New York University.
Stan met his wife, Rima, on the first day of their sophomore year at Syracuse University. Together they have two children, including Jeffrey North, who will serve as co-presenter and works in biopharma business development in New York.
