About this Event
From Hidden Wars to Hidden Theatre
We are pleased to announce a new academic performance festival to be held at the School of Journalism, Media and Culture, Cardiff University on 6th, 7th and 8th November, 2024.
This will see 7 Actor-Journalists from the Middle East deliver workshops, talks and performances on a unique method of Theatre Reportage recently performed at the EU Parliament to MEPs. The festival will also present a new performance of their experiences in Palestine, Iran, Iraq and Ukraine in recent months. The programme will include, films never before seen in the UK, International artist responses to war and cirital discussions.
The festival will explore the following themes:
Who are the ordinary people living in war?
Can theatre and reportage better represent them?
Giving an insight to what war means for civilians - the physical, psychological and emotional impact - and in what ways can theatre express their unreported realities?
Workshops and events are open to artists, activists, journalists and anyone interested in conflict representation and the power of theatre and journalism.
The Festival of Theatre Reportage invites creatives, activists and academics to participate in workshops and engage in an open conversation on the latest research, creative methods and host a forum for ideas. The festival will also present new and vital performances of theatre reportage presenting aspects of life living in conflict, with trained theatre reportage actors, coming directly from the Middle East.
We invite you to participate in the programme below, all events are free apart from the workshops ( details and price below).
We also invite you to contrtibite to the festival environment by submitting responses to the ongoing wars and global crisis through the medium of word, (spoken word recordings or live) visual or audio art. These contributions will feature in a daily exhibition and forum.
If you wish to contribute please contact Dr Carrie Westwater at [email protected] ( deadline for submissions is 4th October 2024).
