About this Event
The walk will explore how Liverpool merchants made their money from slavery and the enslaved economy, principally through the lens of shipping businesses and the cotton trade. It will focus on the buildings they built, the banks they banked with, the insurance companies they insured with and the networks they belonged to. It will also explore how that legacy is acknowledged today and touch on future plans.
This is a relatively short walk concentrated in the business district arround Liverpool Town Hall which is packed with merchant history.
Please arrive by 5:45pm to check in with your Blue Badge Guide.
The walk starts on the corner of Castle Street and Dale Street, in front of the Town Hall.
The route is reasonably accessible although expect some uneven surfaces. There are steps but an alternative route can be taken for wheelchair accessibility if necessary. Part of the route is also quite steep. There are no public toilets available on the route in the evening, but some bars/restaurants may be flexible.
