Nau mai, haere mai ki Te Henga mō tētahi ahiahi o pūoro me pūrākau. Within a grove of pōhutukawa, nestled amongst the dunes, music will be played and songs will be sung of forests and seas, ancestral homelands, and these islands that we call home. Bringing together sounds from the deep south and the far north, From Dust to Mountains, Calla and Te Manu x ngāio will capture your heart and minds with an evening of musical collaboration and exploration.~ FROM DUST TO MOUNTAINS ~
Honouring the unbearable majesty of Aotearoa’s wilds, From Dust to Mountains create lush dub beats as the base camp from which to explore unknown territory. A shimmering snow-capped mountain valley, a serene estuary at sunrise, the depths of ancient forest. This music is a vessel woven from threads of memory of the land we call home. Within that vessel the ever-changing roster of instrumentalists improvise in dialogue with each other and the movements of the crowd. From Dust to Mountains is music made of, and for, earthen dancefloors under southern skies. Aaron will join us on the sax 🎷🔥

~ CALLA ~
Calla is a force of nature wielding unique musical skill as a spiritual spellcaster capturing audiences in a suspended time-rift. A master of the human-voice-as-instrument, electronic musician, violinist, and pianist, Calla is one of those people for whom music is not a pond lightly dabbled in, but an ocean that she calls home. It’s not so much that she plays music; it simply pours out of her. Expect elements of operatic vocals, heavy bass, and hommages to the worlds of folk, pop, and cinema epics. If music is the language of the soul then Calla speaks truth in many tongues.

~ TE MANU x NGĀIO ~
Hailing from the great forest of Tiriwa and raised by the black sands of Te Henga, Te Manu (Tangata Tiriti) seeks to decolonise the dance and bring forth the music of Te Pō by sonically weaving taonga pūoro and waiata Māori with soundsytem-oriented deep dub and bass. Their music serves as a meeting point of Te Ao Tawhito and Te Ao Hurihuri - where stone, wood and bone meet dubbed-out FX and sub bass frequencies. Joined by vocalist and taonga pūoro player, ngāio (Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti Maru ki Hauraki), whose multi-disciplinary storytelling captures whakapapa made and in the making, the two invite listeners on a journey through a world of many worlds.
