Webinar Description:
Early childhood educators bring learning magic with them to school each day. However, sometimes children in their care are reluctant and resistant to learning. Teachers are always searching for the magic wand to transform behavior. Why can’t I reach this child? How can I motivate curiosity, creativity, and cooperation? When will this child be ready to pay attention and engage enthusiastically? This positive psychology seminar considers the key concepts of positive psychology and how to apply these cutting-edge ideas to deter challenging actions and reactions in the classroom; and to maximize effective interventions that work to diminish, deconstruct, and re-direct challenging interactions and transactions in your classroom. While the focus of this webinar is on working with children in a classroom, the concepts can also be applied to working with children in small groups or in a 1-1 setting. Learn how positive psychology in action hijacks the neurobiology of your students to help facilitate calm, care, and collaboration in your classroom. Bring back the magic!

Objectives:
The participants will be able to…
1.Describe the 5 core concepts of positive psychology and how these ideas may explain challenging behavior in the classroom.
2. Identify at least 3 challenging behaviors in young children and discuss how positive psychology can help address each one.
3. Use at least 3 positive psychology strategies to proactively prevent challenging behaviors in young children.
