Friends of the Youngstown Solidarity Lending Library first meeting August 31 6:30pm

Come help build a living library of radical history, movement knowledge, and working-class organizing traditions!
We're hosting an open meeting for our Friends of the Youngstown Solidarity Lending Library. We'll share the project's vision and goals, talk about how we can work together, and offer a training on becoming a Library Inspector or People's Librarian.
Our collection includes books, zines, pamphlets, media, and other materials on labor history, abolition, civil rights, reproductive freedom, LGBTQ+ liberation, environmental justice, mutual aid, cooperative economics, community safety, and more.

ABOUT THE LIBRARY
The Youngstown Solidarity Lending Library is a community-based lending library dedicated to the support, preservation, study, and activation of radical histories, social movements, and working-class organizing traditions. The library maintains a number of general and special collections. The library is located at 755 Mahoning Avenue in Youngstown and is maintained by the Mahoning Valley Solidarity Alliance (MVSA), a fiscally-sponsored non-profit organization. The library is open during MVSA events and by appointment.
Radical ideas and histories are often fragmented across academic institutions, hidden in private collections, or economically out of reach for the communities most shaped by them. At the same time, there is growing public interest in labor history, abolitionist movements, mutual aid, and grassroots democracy. This library seeks to meet that moment.
The Library includes works that pertain to topics in movement building, civil rights history, and theories and practices of liberation. The library houses publications that further the missions of contemporary regional organizing efforts, including the subject areas of Mahoning Valley Solidarity Alliance, including reproductive freedom, labor organizing, social justice histories, movement building references, LGBTQIA+ histories and philosophies, community safety, and works on community building and mutual aid.
The library contains materials and publications across a number of formal and informal publishing sectors, from traditional publishing houses to DIY zine producers, and seeks to offer members electronic access to materials, including texts, videos, and sound recordings relevant to our collections interests.
