Artificial intelligence is all around, but how much of it do you really understand? Does it worry you as it becomes a part of our lives in so many ways? Join us to learn more. For adults. Register at https://guelphpl.libnet.info/event/11923562.Should we embrace artificial intelligence (AI) with open arms or approach it with caution? As AI rapidly advances, many of us are left wondering about its impact on our
lives, jobs, privacy and safety. We know that AI will help with efficiency and automation, enhance our capacity for data analysis, advance diagnostic technologies, and help tailor experiences so they meet the needs of individuals but there is also the risk of job loss and critical thinking skills, environmental impacts, and the possibilities of malicious use, like deep fakes and cyberattacks. How can the benefits outweigh the risks?
Join Kevin Matsui, Managing Director of the Center for Advancing Responsible and Ethnical Artificial Intelligence (CARE-AI), from the University of Guelph. He knows that Artificial Intelligence can seem overwhelming and scary for many of us. Sometimes we can’t even distinguish AI from the real thing. Kevin, however, is familiar with all its challenges and its potential. He will dispel myths and clarify misconceptions surrounding AI technology with a presentation that is sure to expand our knowledge and appreciation of Artificial Intelligence. Best of all, he will reduce some of our fears (and hopefully not add too many new ones!).
About the Speaker
Kevin Matsui is an engaging communicator in AI technology and ethics. With years of experience in the software field and a passion for educating the public on the implications and uses of AI, Kevin is well-equipped to guide us through this complex topic. His work at the University of Guelph focuses on a research centre facilitating the integration of ethical considerations into the development and application of AI, making him able to prepare people for today’s debates surrounding technology and society.
This event is part one of the Friends of the Guelph Public Library Open Minds Fall Speaker series.
