About this Event
The deep sea is the largest biome of Earth and contains most of the unknown forms of life. Ongoing mapping and census efforts highlight how much remains to be discovered. Especially the remote, ice-covered polar seas host fascinating habitats and species, and they continue to surprise us with amazing solutions to life under extreme conditions. This talk summarizes recent findings from the polar deep-sea and other abyssal ecosystems. It provides insight in new technologies that allow for a better understanding of the distribution, diversity and dynamics of deep-sea life and its biological interactions. It also discusses chances and needs of research in the framework of current conservation plans and policies.
