March 13 - Anthony Feimster

Meet Anthony Feimster Jr, also known as Feimstro – a soulful and creative musician breaking barriers from the toughest streets of Flint. Don't let stereotypes fool you; Feimstro's unique sound draws inspiration from legends like James Taylor, Ray Charles, PJ Morton, and Esperanza Spalding. In a world where artistic expression often faces judgment, Feimstro fearlessly embraces his true self, proving that real art knows no boundaries. His impact goes beyond music; Feimstro's style and authenticity inspire others to break free from societal norms. During the 2020 global crisis, Feimstro's COVID EP became a journey of self-discovery and creativity. The 2021 release,"YAKO," stormed YouTube with 100k views in two months, paving the way for his debut album, "Nina," a heartfelt tribute to the legendary Nina Simone. He even dropped a special piano version on Bandcamp. In 2023, Feimstro was named Artist-in-Residence at UMS, a testament to his profound connection with both his audience and community. With soulful melodies, he captivates and showcases unwavering dedication to his craft. Feimstro’s latest album, "Dis Ain't No Joke," showcases his mastery of the genre and his fearless exploration of profound themes. Released to critical acclaim, the album delves into serious topics such as mental health, trust issues, the struggles of making it as an artist, and more. With a style reminiscent of the 1950s, the album transports listeners to a bygone era while addressing contemporary issues with sincerity and depth. isn't just a kid from Flint; he's a gifted storyteller embracing the future and the untold musical tales that lie ahead. Get ready to be moved by Feimstro's authentic and boundary-breaking musical journey.

April 10 & May 8 - LaShaun Phoenix Moore and Friends

La Shaun Phoenix Moore (she/her/hers) is a multifaceted artist: a Detroit-based vocalist, spoken-word artist, activist, culture creator, and wife. Moore’s interdisciplinary work is infused with her love for Detroit, hip-hop, God, social justice, and her black momma. She is currently working on several new projects, including her first memoir, which explores the complexities of the Mother Wound and its roots in her immediate family, and a series of interviews and performances called 42MW, which interrogates the 42 million ways of Blackness after Henry Louis Gates, Jr. (who has given his stamp of approval to this historical legacy project) that celebrates Black joy, Black hope, and Black audacity in reference to Mr. Gates’ infamous talk on the subject. As a spoken-word poet and poetry host, Moore has had the wonderful opportunity to share stages with many national and local acts, including The Last Poets, Saul Williams, Jamaal May, Franny Choi, Nandi Comer (Michigan Poet Laureate), Jessica CARE Moore (Detroit Poet Laureate), Tommye Blount, Jassmine Parks, Ajanae Dawkins, Brittany Rogers and Natasha T. Miller. She was the five-year host of the ByteThis Poetry Series. Moore served on the Executive Council of Poetry Slam, Incorporated, and as the Event Coordinator for the national poetry slams, Women of the World Poetry Slam and the Individual World Poetry Slam. Moore is the coach of the Youth Performance Troupe for InsideOut Literary Arts and curates poetry and music events in partnership with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, The Wright Museum, and endprejudice, and in collaboration with Steven D. Thomas at Michigan State University. She is the recipient of multiple Creators of Culture Awards by CultureSource and is the standard for excellence in artistic curation in Detroit.
