FRIDAY JAZZ AT CASITA MIRO with Geléia - 9th October

What do you get when you blend the effortless swing of Django Reinhardt with the sun-soaked rhythms of Antônio Carlos Jobim? Geléia. Meaning "jam" in Portuguese, this Waiheke-born collective has become a favourite on the island for their irresistible mix of Bossa Nova, Samba, Gypsy Jazz and hot-club swing. Their performances glide seamlessly between Brazilian classics, Parisian jazz cafés and spontaneous improvisation, creating the kind of atmosphere that makes a long lunch stretch into sunset. Featuring the sublime vocals of Sophie Aston alongside Jeremy Wallas, Doug Robertson and Martin King on guitars, with Nuno Moura Santos on drums and Chris Orange on bass, Geléia brings together some of Waiheke's finest musicians for an evening of warmth, virtuosity and groove. Their last appearance at Casita Miro had the whole room swaying from the first note, and this return promises another unforgettable night of beautiful food, fine wine, and some of Auckland's finest musicians.
