Join Neotectonic Vocal Ensemble as we celebrate five years of choral singing with Lustrum - a special anniversary concert reflecting on the ensemble’s journey since its founding.
Drawing on repertoire from our past performances, this programme revisits audience favourites and defining moments from across five years of music, collaboration, and artistic exploration. From the Renaissance and English choral canon to jazz, folk, madrigals, and popular hits, Lustrum honours the music that has shaped Neotectonic's story. Particular highlights include Byrd’s Ne irascaris domine, Parry’s My Soul, There is a Country, and Billy Joel’s Lullabye (Goodnight my Angel).
The concert will also feature the world premiere of a newly commissioned work by Fergus Byett, E Tama (Kia Ronga Rā), written especially for the occasion, marking both a celebration of the past and an exciting step into the future.
Neotectonic is thrilled to be joined by pianist Soomin Kim for this very special programme.
This concert also marks a poignant moment for Neotectonic as it is the last for Artistic Director Blake Scanlen before he heads to the UK for further music studies.
Come celebrate five years of Neotectonic Vocal Ensemble with an evening of music, memory, and new beginnings. We hope to see you there.

Neotectonic Vocal Ensemble was founded in 2021 as a place for friends from the Auckland Youth Choir to continue singing together. Beginning as a nine-person ensemble, they are now a 16-strong chamber choir who perform all around Tāmaki Makaurau several times a year. Their repertoire ranges from Byrd and Victoria to Morten Lauridsen and Caroline Shaw, including various New Zealand and world premieres. Past collaborations have included with St. Matthew’s Voices, pianist Sofia Onishko, and Wairua Sinfonietta. Their artistic director is Blake Scanlen.
