About this Event

Dive into an underwater world of freshwater animals! Dr. Maury Dudley of the Oglerthorpe biology department will be paying us a visit this Sunday to teach us about the scaly wildlife that inhabits these creeks. We'll especially be learning about the turtles of the preservation, where to look, and how to identify them.


In this walk and talk around the Preserve, participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Ask questions an expert can answer
  • Explore the trails of Blue Heron
  • Learn about the importance of turtles in the ecosystem
  • Find some cool turtle species



What are Second Saturday Safaris at Blue Heron?

An outdoor education series, open to adults and families alike. Each workshop offers a deep dive into the ecology of our protected greenspace, highlighting the importance of the species that call Blue Heron home.

On the second Saturday of each month from 10AM to 12PM, we’ll gather at the Preserve with guest experts for engaging talks and guided walks through the trails. It’s a chance to deepen your understanding of the natural world, connect with passionate experts, and experience the beauty of Blue Heron in a new wa
