Freshtables, for a night of fresh beats and tasty jams, with a set of indie dance gems for those that have a passion for house, the 80s, synthwave, nu disco, and, of course, indie dance.Chris Toms, better known as Freshtables, is a pioneering DJ and radio host who has helped shape Halifax's electronic dance music (EDM) scene for over three decades. His DJing career ignited in 1995, when he joined CKDU (then 97.5 FM, now 88.1 FM) community radio. His debut solo show, Hardcore Nightmares On Wax (HCNOW), introduced him as DJ Heartattack and centred on jungle and drum & bass. Over the years, the program evolved and rebranded to Freshtables, which Toms has hosted ever since. Marking 31 years on air as of 2026, Freshtables remains a Wednesday night staple, delivering an eclectic mix of genres, including drum & bass, house, techno, indie dance, dubstep, deep dubstep, electronica, and UK garage (UKG)—making it a cornerstone for EDM enthusiasts in Halifax and beyond.
