French Immersion Weekend
Spend a full day (Saturday, Nov. 7) in a welcoming, 100% French-speaking environment, with an optional dinner and live concert the evening before (Friday, Nov. 6). You'll be grouped with speakers at your level for hands-on, interactive workshops (think crepe making, songs, games, art, nature walks, and cultural sessions on Francophone Africa, Québec, Franco-Americans in New England, and more). This year we're also thrilled to welcome a workshop from the Alliance Française du Maine featuring their Festival Champlain film festival.
This is one of the only immersion events in the U.S. that brings together high school and college students, French teachers, and community members every year on a university campus. Whether you're a student, an educator, a heritage or native speaker, or a lifelong learner, there's a place for you here.
Who can attend: Intermediate and advanced speakers. High school students should have two years of French (or equivalent); college students, one year (or equivalent). Your French doesn't have to be perfect! Supportive teachers, handouts, and visual aids will guide you.
Cost: $90 students / $125 community members. Optional Friday catered dinner: $40. Scholarships are available, and FRE 202 college credit is an option.
Registration closes October 28, and this event typically fills with a waitlist, so don't wait! Registration is a two-step process (form + payment). Details and links: uma.edu/frenchimmersion
