This year’s poster design carries a very special meaning. The image of a hand gently cupping water represents “Derbal Nara” – the Noongar name for Cockburn Sound, our shared sea country.
In the Noongar language, "Derbal Nara" means "Estuary of the Salmon" or "Cockburn Sound," referencing the importance of the salmon found there and the estuary's resemblance to a palm or hollow of the hands used to hold meals. The word also means "on or by the estuary, like a mouth or a palm or hollow of the hands which holds our meals”. The cupped hand design symbolizes Derbal Nara itself, the connection to the landscape and the food it provides as well as a reminder that the ocean holds us, and we in turn have a responsibility to hold and care for it.
For 10 years, FUFF has been a space where community, story, and the sea meet. Now we invite you to join us in celebrating a decade of films, conversations, and connection with the underwater world we all depend on.
