About this Event
In this class for ages 13 and up, Shawn Ford will be teaching participants how to enjoy the outdoors while leaving minimal impact on both the land and wallets. Hiking and camping don't have to require expensive gear as long as you know some basics and can keep a positive attitude and an open mind.
Participants are asked to dress for the outdoors (including light rain) and be prepared for up to 1 mile of moderate hiking (it's tick season so closed-toe shoes, pants, and bug spray). We also suggest bringing a sharp knife (pocket or sheath), water, snacks, and a way to take notes.
We will plan to meet at the Pavilion and head out into the forest (weather-permitting). If the weather isn't cooperative, we will stay at the shelter.
Class is FREE, but limited to 15 participants so please register. If you have registered and can no longer attend, PLEASE CANCEL your registration so that someone else may take your place. NO PETS. If you have camping gear and want to stay the night after class, please bring $10 per person for the overnight camping fee.
About Shawn:
As well as being a high school science teacher, Shawn has taught outdoor ethics principles and techniques for over 15 years to various groups of all ages. He feels strongly that a person can leave no trace in the woods without going into debt purchasing expensive gear.
