WHAT TO EXPECT:
America's 250th birthday only happens once. On July 4, 2026, the Washington Monument Grounds become the epicenter of a national celebration unlike anything the country has seen — not since the Bicentennial in 1976 has the United States marked such a milestone. Freedom250, led by a national non-partisan committee of federal agencies, civic groups, and cultural institutions, is producing the official national commemoration of America's 250th anniversary.
THE FIREWORKS:
850,000 shells will be launched from 10 simultaneous sites — the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, eight Potomac River barges, and West Potomac Park — creating the largest fireworks display in American history. The 40-minute show will be visible throughout the National Mall and across the DC metro area.
DAYTIME PROGRAM (1 PM onwards):
• Headline musical performances by American artists
• Military flyovers — including first-ever aerobatic demonstrations over DC
• Patriotic speeches and national celebrations
EVENING LIVE BROADCAST (7 PM):
• Joint Armed Forces Orchestra
• National speakers and patriotic program
• National live broadcast available for those watching from home
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:
• Clear bag policy strictly enforced — one clear bag max 12x6x12
• No backpacks, coolers, folding chairs, drones, or aerosols
• Metro and rideshare strongly recommended — parking extremely limited
• Nearest Metro stops: Federal Triangle, L'Enfant Plaza, Smithsonian, Federal Center SW
• Bring water and take shade breaks — July heat and humidity can be intense
• Hearing protection recommended, especially for children
The Salute to America 250 is the once-in-a-250-year event of a lifetime. Tickets and livestream info: freedom250.org
