About this Event
Join us for a special early voting impact screening of Freedom is a Verb, a powerful new documentary by from Firelight Media and Sound Off Films that dives deep into the life and art of renowned Cuban-American artist Edel Rodriguez.
This screening, presented by Miami Freedom Project and Sound Off Films, in collaboration with YoungArts, Books & Books, and the Cuban American Women Supporting Democracy (CAWSD) offers a unique opportunity to engage in conversation about freedom, democracy, and civic engagement ahead of the upcoming election.
Rodriguez's journey—from his early life in Cuba to his rise as an acclaimed artist in the United States—is captured in vivid detail in this film. His iconic artwork, shaped by his experiences of immigration and political turmoil, has boldly challenged power, including his famous depictions of the 45th president of the United States. The film reflects on his relentless pursuit of freedom that defines his life and work.
This is a special preview screening ahead of the film's distribution on PBS next year. The film is also screening at three Academy Award-qualifying festivals—DOC NYC, New Hampshire, and St. Louis—this fall. Don't miss this chance to be inspired by the courage and creativity of Edel Rodriguez, and to reflect on the power of your voice in shaping our future.
