Youth Mental Health First Aid is a public education program designed to teach everyday citizens how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among children and adolescents ages 12-18.This evidence-based program will include:
• Common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges in this age group, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders and attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD).
• Common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges.
•How to interact with a child or adolescent in crisis.
•How to connect the youth with help.
•Expanded content on trauma, substance use, self-care and the impact of social media and bullying.
This program includes an online portion that MUST be completed prior to the class. A link for the online portion will be available after participants are reigstered and fully enrolled.
Each participant who completes the program in its entirety receives certification by the National Council for Behavioral Health as a "Mental Health First Aider" which is valid for a period of 3 years, and renewable online.
