About this Event
In the wake of the stress, trauma, and chaos brought by the recent Eaton Fire, we wanted to give back to our community by creating a space for everyone who needs to decompress, relax, and reset. As Altadena residents and part of the Pasadena business community, we wanted to use our resoures to give people affected a space for healing. This free Yin yoga class is our way of bringing neighbors together—to support one another and prioritize self-care through movement, breath, and shared connection.
This class is designed to be accessible to everyone – there’s no skill level required or expected. Whether you’re a seasoned yogi or have never stepped on a yoga mat before, you are warmly invited to join us.
What is Yin and How Can It Help?
Yin yoga is a slow, meditative practice that targets deep connective tissues through long, sustained holds (2-5 minutes). It encourages mindfulness, introspection, and relaxation, offering a counterbalance to more intense, muscular-focused (yang) practices. Rooted in ancient Chinese philosophy, Yin yoga works with the body’s energy pathways (meridians) to promote a healthy flow of Qi, supporting overall well-being.
Unlike active styles of yoga, Yin focuses on stillness, allowing gravity to gently open the body while bringing awareness to sensations, breath, and thoughts without attachment. The body softens, the mind slows, and awareness deepens, revealing the wisdom of impermanence—everything arises and passes. Yin is not about striving but about surrendering into the present moment. It’s the perfect way to soothe both body and mind after challenging times.
We’re excited to have Natalie C, a highly respected local instructor known for her work at local studios in Pasadena and around LA, leading this class. Natalie’s calming presence and expert guidance will help you ease into stretches, gentle movements, and breathwork, creating a truly restorative experience.
We'll turn the lights down, turn up the calming sounds, and relax, destress, and get grounded together.
What You’ll Need:
- A yoga mat (we will have some on hand but ask that you bring your own if you have one)
- A yoga mat towel (optional, a bath towel works as a decent substiture!)
We encourage you to come as you are – no expectations or experience needed, just a space to relax, unwind, and connect with our amazing community of Altadena and Pasadena. We’re proud to live and work in this wonderful community and we’d love to see you there!
With love and gratitude,
Maddie and Josh
