👤 Meet Your Facilitator: Dan Heaton

Dan Heaton is a doctoral researcher at The University of Nottingham specialising in the application of advanced linguistic methodologies to social media analysis. With a background in teaching and leadership Dan brings a unique perspective to the field of social media analytics. Through his PhD and consultancy work he has extensive experience in applying NLP corpus linguistics and discourse analysis to social media data and has facilitated talks and workshops at the British Association of Applied Linguistics (BAAL) and Social Media and Society (SM+S) conferences. A former educator with a passion for making complex concepts accessible to diverse audiences Dan is currently leading an EPSRC Horizon CDT Impact Project to bridge the gap between academic research and industry applications in social media analytics. Dan's unique blend of academic rigour and practical experience ensures that workshop participants will gain valuable actionable insights that can be immediately applied to their work in social media analysis.

Do I need a certain level of experience?

All practitioners regardless of experience are welcome. While we are particularly interested in people currently working in social media analytics anyone curious about social media analysis is encouraged to attend!

What will I need to bring?

A laptop (or similar portable device that can connect to the internet) and something to take notes.

Is lunch provided?

Unfortunately lunch is not provided. There are plenty of spots around the venue to grab lunch during the breaks. Instead we are gifting all participants a £15 Amazon voucher.

Are refreshments provided?

Yes bottles of water will be provided for all workshop attendees.
