The faded elegance and glory of the viii district has inspired gangster rappers from Mr.Joint & Ferke to Animal Cannibals. The famous animated ghetto film nyólcker was based on the district. Many movies have been shot in the district including scenes of Fateless as well as Baptiste, a British TV Drama, takes place around Jozsefvaros, and the hate crimes against the immigrant population that lives there. Ferenc Molnár's youth novel, The Paul Street Boys (which was made into a film several times) was also based on the district.

Most of these have now ceased to exist or have been transformed, and are often used as a film location for movies including The Exam and Kolorádó Kid-Visit the infamous Chinese market; which is the largest wholesale market in ECE and explore its gloomy past.
