FREE TOUR: Chicopee's East Street Cemetery

Join Bob Comeau as he takes us on a tour of Chicopee's East Street Cemetery, founded in 1825 as Chicopee Falls Cemetery. This cemetery is a resting place that reflects the city’s deep history. The tour, in honor of its 200th anniversary will highlight local history and notable burials of Chicopee families, veterans, early settlers.

For local historians and genealogists, East Street Cemetery is a key source of family history, chronicling generations of local residents. This cemetery became the final resting place for several local families, including the Belchers, Taylors, Fays, Cadwells, the Richardsons, and Mitchell Paul, who had connections to the Canadian Rebellion of 1837.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Chicopee Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Directions: Park on Broadway Street and meet on the sidewalk in front of the cemetery

Please wear comfortable shoes and prepare to be out in the grass. You may want to bring bug repellant and sunscreen.
