About this Event
FREE talk: The Strawberry Line greenway
Discover the history, sights, and stories behind a local greenway that’s perfect for walking, cycling, and exploring nature. Mick Fletcher, Chair of the Strawberry Line Society, will give a talk about this traffic-free, wheelchair-accessible path from the Mendips to the sea, along the former railway line. The 2-mile section from Wells to Dulcote offers ancient woodland and spectacular hillside views of Wells Cathedral. Fledgling sections at Westbury-sub-Mendip and Shepton Mallet inspire the active traveller with a vision of a kinder, greener future.
This talk has been organised as part of Discover Nature fortnight, by the Step, Ride, Thrive project. The fortnight aims to connect people with nature across the Avalon Marshes reserves and in their local communities - and to promote active travel opportunities, including walking, cycling, and the pilot 668 bus from Street and Glastonbury to the Avalon Marshes Centre.
Step, Ride, Thrive is led by 23 parishes within Avalon and the Poldens and is funded by a grant from Somerset Council and the Somerset Association of Local Councils (SALC).
