FAQ:
1. What is Mutual Aid?
Mutual aid happens when individuals or groups get together to voluntarily share resources and offer support to one another. Typically a person or group will have a surplus of an item/skill to share. This can be material things such as toiletries, clothes, and medicine, but it can also be non-material things like changing break lights for someone or offering a service pro-bono.
2. Who are we?
Cleveland County Mutual Aid Project is a group of individuals (largely in Shelby) who come together once a month to pool resources and connect with others in the community.
You may see familiar faces month-to-month and we work hard to support each other so that the organizing doesn’t fall on one person.
While there are a few central organizing members (those who decide the dates for our pop-ups), we value input from community members and are open to collaborating with other organizations and individuals.
3. How can you help/donate?
The main benefit of mutual aid is that anyone and everyone is welcome to contribute when they have the resources, time, and energy.
If you have a skill, resource, or material item (especially a surplus of any of these), you have something that can be given.
We do not operate on financial forms of support exclusively. We like to see people bring items or skills with them to our pop ups.
To donate items, message the page to schedule a drop off or you can bring items to Got Books on Washington St. or Newgrass on S. Lafayette St. during their open hours.
4. Is everything really free?
Yes! Everything is free to anyone who wants or needs the items we have. In fact, we welcome and encourage anyone to take any of them items we have. The goal is to share resources across the community as much as possible.
